Baby With Two Faces Heralded as Representation of Hindu Goddess

Can you imagine your child being born with a serious disfigurement, and being in one of the only parts of the world where instead of your baby being pitied, she is revered?

This is the case with Lali, the newborn daughter of Vinod and Sushma, who was born with a condition called craniofacial duplication.  In the rural area of northern India where she lives, her condition has caused quite the stir where the locals believe she is the return of the Hindu goddess of valor, Durga, a fiery deity traditionally depicted with three eyes and many arms.

This is one of the cases where I have no opinion on the matter beyond simply finding it fascinating.  It is an example of myths in modern times.

So far Lali is healthy and doing well with seemingly no complications regarding her condition.  She is able to drink milk from either mouth and blinks all her eyes at the same time.  Craniofacial duplication, typically comes with serious health problems, so if she can beat odds like that… maybe she really could be the incarnation of a goddess.
